HARRY MILLER MIDDLE SCHOOL

ANNOUNCEMENT FORM

Today’s DateTuesday, June 1, 2021

Welcome to Joyful June: Even on difficult days, there are still things to be grateful for. And by noticing more of the good things, we can train our brains to be more resilient. So this month we're encouraging everyone to find and share the little joys in life.

Joyful June tip: Decide to look for the good in every day this month.

Today is red shirt day in support of Disability Awareness.  Thank you to Mrs. McGrath for organizing the activities this week and to staff and students for supporting this important cause.   Please do not forget about the presentation today during period 2 and Mrs. McGrath has sent all of this information to teachers. Each class has received ballets with scrambled sentences. Rearrange the words to make a sentence, add your name to the ballet and submit to the office. On Friday morning there will be draw for prizes.

Tomorrow is our first June Wellness Day!  Don’t forget to wear everything tie-dye to earn those class points!  Also, to staff members who indicated they could bring a washer-toss set, we are counting on you!  Please place them in the library, in a pile between the two doors as we will be using all sets!

A reminder for the classes participating in the Wellness Walk tomorrow that you require a signed permission slip in order to participate.  Homeroom teachers- please send these home today!

Reminder when you arrive on your bike to school it needs to be parked. It is not the time to be driving around and popping wheelies.

Friday, June the 4th, HMMS staff and students are encouraged to wear an Orange shirt in support of Indigenous Peoples across Canada.  Teachers- there was an email sent last evening with more information regarding this Friday and orange shirt day.

With the end of the school year fast approaching, it is time to think about our celebration of the contributions and achievements of our students here at Harry Miller Middle School. One of our most prestigious awards is the “Citizenship Award” which is named in honour of Harry Miller, a former Chief of Police, who was a longstanding and well-respected resident of Rothesay, known for the many acts of kindness and volunteer hours he gave to make our community what it is today. This award recognizes the outstanding contributions that a grade 8 student has made by volunteering in their school and community; showing initiative in their work, attitude, and behavior; and is well respected by both students and staff.

To be considered for the Citizenship Award you must apply to the Awards Committee in writing, indicating your involvement in volunteer work both in and out of school. This volunteer service cannot have been undertaken as a requirement of a specific program or for which you were remunerated or paid.

We would also ask that you enclose your curriculum vitae, which includes the name of three references who are aware of your volunteer service but are not family members.

Please have your application submitted to the office or by emailing Mme Bates at cindy.bates@nbed.nb.ca by Friday, June 11th, 2021. If you require further information, please feel free to contact Mme Bates or the school office, at 849-5515.
